The Royal Marines came from behind to draw 21-21 with Gibraltar’s Select XV on Saturday, producing a terrific turnaround after trailing 21-0 with just 15 minutes left on the clock.

Two converted tries from GRFU Director of Rugby Mike Milward and a further from winger Jonny Reyes saw the hosts race into a 21-0 lead however, a raft of injuries for Gibraltar coupled with three converted tries saw the Royal Mariens level the scores and complete a stunning comeback to draw 21-21 with the final kick of the game.

Prior to the game the Gibraltar Vet were up against the Royal Marines Vets in what seem a one sided affair in favour of the Marines.   The Junior sections were also given timer to shine and showcase their talents on the pitch with a series of small sided games.

GRFU Spokesperson Jack Milner: “The Marines produced a terrific comeback to claim a deserved draw on Saturday but injuries took their toll on Gibraltar with no less than six players taken off during the 80 minutes. Gibraltar’s attentions now turn to Friday’s trip to Hungary for a huge opportunity for the GRFU to bolster their claim for international status. Saturday’s game should get the side spot on for Friday’s trip to Hungary for a massive international friendly for both sides”
