Gotland Island Games 2017

Nineteen is the tally of medals so far 5 Gold, 5 Silver and 9 Bronze taking Gibraltar to 9th in the medals table.

Most of the credit surely goes to the Gibraltar shooters as they account to almost 80% of all medals won and the rest won by the Athletics team and obviously the bronze won by the Triathlon team.

With the six claimed today  shooting have already surpassed their best ever medal count by six as they already stood at nine.

The other medal of the day came once again from the track following the bronze medals by Jerai and Cameron the previous days.  Harvey Dixon claimed gold medal in the 5,000m to retain his crown from previous Island Games in Jersey.

As for the shooters  2 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze were won.  The gold medals were won by Wayne Piris and Enrique Bonifacio in the 50m Prone Small Bore and Jonathan Patron in the 50m Free Pistol.

Stephen Borge won the silver in the IPSC Open Division and on the way also claiming bronze in the team event with Mario Apap.

the other 2 bronze medals were won by Sasha Alexdottir  in the ISSF 10m Air Pistol and Daniel Payas in the 50m Free Pistol.

So as it stands 19 medals for Gibraltar and with many more options still open  shooting still ongoing, Men’s Basketball are to play in the semi-finals tomorrow and a few more finals to be ran at the track.  A very high possibility of bringing home over 20 medals from this Island Games.
