Gotland Island games 2017

Gibraltar Athletics’ day at the track has been brief but quite successful, with just the 4x100m relays and the 800m men’s final raced.

The day started off with the 4x100m relay for the ladies team where the 1995 Sunshine Games Golden Girl Sharron Celecia (Mifsud at the time) competing 22 years later at the young age of 47, together with Zyanne Hook, Mya Zarb and Laura Bevington.  The girls placed 3rd on their heat and just missed out of a spot in the final by less than a second.

The men’s 4x100m relay was next with Sean Collado, Sean Peñalver, Jerai Torres and youngster Craig Gill in action, (Jesse Franco not 100% fit to compete).  The Boys had a fantastic performance getting through to the final and breaking the national record in the process with a time of 43.72, previous record stood at 44.14.

And lastly but certainly not least we had the last race of the evening was the 800m final run by Cameron Pallas.  Having qualified with the second best time in the heats, team Gibraltar were quite hopeful he would deliver.  And so he did, 3rd place in a very tough race indeed with a time of 1:54.60 and a personal best.
